My re-brand journey…

At the start of 2023, I decided to use the quieter months to do a complete re-brand. The original logo I had is one that I very quickly put together on canva, and I never really felt that it was quite right.

I also felt I needed to get clearer on my ‘brand voice’ and specifically the direction I wanted to take with my jewellery designs. I worked with the fabulous Meg from Lemon and Birch - I took her ‘DIY branding Roadmap’ course, and it was fantastic to help me get clear on my vision and values.

Journaling to find my brand key words and values:

After working through Meg’s journaling prompts, I decided upon these key words that I felt represented, or that I wanted to represent my brand - natural, earthy, feminine, creative, organic and connection.

I searched on Pinterest and created a mood board using these keywords.

Choosing a colour scheme and fonts:

From there I picked some colours and fonts that I felt would fit well with my mood board. I wanted my brand colours to reflect the earthy, natural vibe I was looking for. So I chose the muted forest green and the earthy, berry toned terracotta.

The main serif font I picked for my name has a classic yet feminine boho feel, and the handwritten script font adds a softer, relaxed and personal touch.

Creating the logos:

Then I started looking for a symbol that would represent my brand. And I fell upon the sycamore seed. And these are the final designs…

I’m not gona lie, creating these new logo’s took a long time, and I went through many previous logo ideas before I got to these ones.

Bringing symbolism into my branding:

It all came together when I finally fell upon the sycamore seed.

What I had been missing in my previous designs had been symbolism and soul.

I had been trying various leaf / organic / natural designs, but none of them were quite right or had the feel and vibe I was looking for.

Then I landed on the humble sycamore seed and it seemed perfect. It just felt right.

I love the organic natural symbol of a sycamore seed.

I loved playing with them when I was a kid and knew them as helicopter seeds.

I love that they look a bit like butterfly wings.

And when I looked into the symbolism and history of sycamore trees it seemed kind of perfect -

  • They symbolise strength, love, protection and fertility.

  • Apparently they are particularly resistant to strong winds meaning they will stay standing where other trees would fall. Hence becoming known as a symbol of strength and protection.

  • They help the environment as they are very adept at breaking down pollutants in the air. (I'm guessing this is the same for most trees but still).

  • And apparently the wood of the sycamore has long been used by crafters and wood workers due to its fine grain and colour.

I just loved this. I loved the idea of weaving this symbolism and representation into my branding. So the sycamore seed it is.

Plus, not sure about you, but I have seen little sycamore seedlings EVERYWHERE at the minute. So it must be a good year for them. Another big tick in my book that this is meant to be.

So there you have it, that was my journey to creating my current logo and branding.

I’d love to know your thoughts.
